A road trip through Florida

Often referred to as the 'Sunshine State', Florida is renowned for its variety of natural wonders and impressive attractions. There is so much to discover and experience, making it a perfect destination to explore by rental car. For this reason, our experts have put together the ultimate Florida road trip for you. It starts at Miami International Airport, one of eight international airports in Florida.

Everglades National Park

Just a 45-minute drive from the airport is the extraordinary Everglades National Park, an ideal start to your road trip. You can also choose to stay overnight in Miami first and then drive to the park. Here you can admire the majestic mangrove forests, explore the wetlands and come face to face with alligators and crocodiles. An 'airboat tour' is an absolute must to see the animals up close and to immerse yourself in the beauty of this national park.

Florida's west coast

The west coast is lined by miles of white sandy beaches. These beaches take you past the cities of Naples and St Petersburg. Naples is known for its pristine white-sand beaches and luxurious atmosphere. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. In the old part of Naples, you will find a mix of charming beach houses and imposing mansions. From Naples, you can drive about 2.5 hours north along the coast to reach St Petersburg, a city full of art and culture. Explore the Salvador Dalí Museum and immerse yourself in the surreal world of this iconic artist. Also explore the city's vibrant downtown and rich art scene.

St Augustine

You will leave the west coast and then cross the state towards the east coast. A stopover in Ocala for an overnight stay will eventually bring you to St Augustine. This beautiful and authentic city is the oldest city in the United States. A sight not to be missed here is the Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest and largest fort in the country - definitely worth a visit!

South along the east coast

Next, drive south along Florida's east coast to stop in Daytona Beach. This coastal town offers not only a beach with a fantastic pier where you can shop and dine, but also the Daytona International Speedway where car races take place, and the Museum of Arts and Sciences can be visited. After your stay in Daytona Beach, continue your journey south to Orlando, the world-famous theme park capital. Here you'll find Orlando Universal Studios, Disneyland Resort, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, SeaWorld and the Kennedy Space Center. There is an abundance of activities for all ages.
